2017 HEAR Now Audio Fiction and Arts Festival

Four members of the Shots in the Night Radio Theatre Ensemble have been invited to perform at the 2017 HEAR Now Audio Fiction and Arts Festival https://www.facebook.com/Hearnowfestival/ in Kansas City, June 8-11. Thursday, June 8 Mary Gerlt and Rozanne Devine will read excerpts from Mark Twain. Sallie Downing will read on Friday June 9. Mark Twain readings will be held at Prospero’s Books, 39th and Gennessee at 5:15 p.m. On Saturday June 10 at 1:00 p.m. Michael Donnici will take part in the narrative, 1917, featuring award winning narrator and storyteller, Scott Brick at the National World War 1 Museum. These events are free and open to the public. HEAR Now is the audio equivalent of a film festival for fans, performers and producers of contemporary audio story-telling in all its forms: live and scripted solo performances, multi-voiced performance, classic radio drama, experimental narrative, and much more. This four-day Festival offers a multi-faceted program showcasing the many forms of audio fiction and sound art story-telling in theaters and other “listening” venues. HEAR Now presents audio fiction programs that exemplify traditions of craftsmanship, as well as aesthetic and technological innovation. The 2017 HEAR Now Festival will again be a gathering place where the work of master storytellers is celebrated and shared. Audio drama, audiobooks, recorded, and live story-telling — sketches, poetry, spoken word — alongside academic papers, juried competitions, and presentations on the physics of sound, as well as performance workshops, will round out this intensive listening event for the 2017 Hear Now Festival. Once the festival begins June 8, check out the HEAR Now website where Shots In the Night will have three entries in the featured podcasts. July show

July show

July will be our joke show, to get everyone in the mood I thought I would share a joke that didn’t make the cut… A farmer had a huge watermelon patch that produced a good crop. His only problem was that people kept sneaking into his field and stealing his watermelons. To solve the problem the farmer decided to get a dog to watch over his fields. So he went to see the breeder to get the right dog for his need. The farmer bought the dog and put him to work. In no time the farmer’s crop losses were minimized. However there was a problem with the dog. The farmer called the breeder out to the farm so he could show him the issue; “look, he runs around the border of the field then suddenly stops and begins to whine.” The breeder was indignant “well you did ask for a melon collie!” Be sure to tune in Thursday July 2, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. CST, the jokes really do get better!
