Martin Tomlinson

Martin Tomlinson started young. He started learning improvisation and acting when he was five years old. He has spent eight years working with the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, first through camps, and later by joining various acting troupes, including Teen Shakespeare. He was in fifth grade when he wrote a radio play parodying standardized testing in elementary schools for a Communiversity class, “So You Want to Be on Radio.” Bill Clause, who was teaching the class, recognized Martin’s talent and turned the play over to the Shots in the Night crew. He’s been part of Shots in the Night for more than 5 years. He has participated in radio theater camps with the Lawrence-based Right Between the Ears radio troupe and in the National Radio Theater Hear/Now Festival workshops. He enjoys writing skits about politics, but he also has covered topics from road rage to pink slime. He even created new superhero duo for radio,The Redflashlight and his side kick, Light Bulb, who fight injustice in their own, bungling way. Martin often writes and performs original songs for monthly radio shows and specializes in playing everyone’s favorite son. He’s glad to be the youngest member of Shots in the Night.
